SERVING THE HARLEM COMMUNITY
Harlem Think Tank
The Harlem Think Tank is an outgrowth of the Green Haven Think Tank, which was started by Eddie Ellis, Cardel “Blood” Sharids and Larry “Lugman” White. The goal was to research what effects the criminal justice has on Black and Brown and poor white communities. A result of their studies they found that 85% of the New York State prison population comes New York City and 75% of the population come from 7 neighborhoods in the city.
The Harlem Think Tank has a similar motif, advocating for criminal justice reform and for society to reinvest in Black and Brown and poor white communities. The Harlem Think Tank is comprised of those who have done long prison sentences 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 years and those who were directly impacted by the criminal justice system do to their love one’s incarceration.
